The Maryland WBA Foundation, Inc. has created a Law School Scholarship to recognize outstanding law student(s) in the State of Maryland who have a demonstrated commitment to issues impacting women.

To qualify for a scholarship award, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

            -        be a student in good standing, enrolled at a law school in Maryland;

            -        have qualified academically;

            -        demonstrate financial need or a demonstrated commitment to the advocacy and/or

                     advancement of women’s rights; and

            -        be a student member of the WBA of Maryland.

The depth and breadth of women who applied for the scholarship during the last five years inspires those who participate in the foundation. These young women have undertaken such tasks as becoming rape crisis counselors - in three different states, developing writing and mentor programs for teenage girls, authoring children’s books in an attempt to diminish gender socialization and a plethora of other activities throughout their schools and communities advocating for women.  Their professors describe them as having “unwavering devotion to community service in the furtherance of women’s and children’s rights” and “a passion for social justice” and as some of the “most extraordinary students” at their law schools.

Just as the Maryland Women’s Bar Foundation hopes to honor the achievements of women attorneys in Maryland through the Finding Justice project, we hope to support, financially, and through education and mentoring, the rising stars of the future who will continue the drive for and commitment to advancing women’s rights.
